What is a percentage?

There are two different types of ways through which we can denote percentage. It can be expressed through fractions (e.g. 75/100) and decimals (e.g. 0.75), and so on.

How to calculate the percentage?
Calculating the percentage of a number is very easy. You just need to remember the number obtained and the total number that is provided to you in the sum. First, we need to turn the numbers in the form of a fraction, and then we need to carry out the multiplication of the given number by 100. For example,
Ravi scored 20 out of 80. How will you find the percentage of marks Ravi has scored?
The answer is simple, you just need to go by the formula.
(Marks obtained / Total marks) × 100 = 20 / 80 × 100 = 100 / 4 = 25 %

Points to ponder
If you have to calculate the percentage of a whole, first, calculate the value of one percent and then multiply it by the whole.
The decrease and the increase of a quantity can be denoted by a percentage.
We can easily convert fractions and decimals to percentages and vice versa, which we learn in class 4.
We can easily reverse a percentage. For example, 50 percent of 100 equals 100 percent of 50.
Marks are usually given in hundred and we multiply the fraction by a hundred to calculate the percentage. For example, if a student gets 30/50, then the fraction multiplied by 100 will give us the percentage of marks obtained by the student. Thus, it becomes
30 / 50 × 100 = 30 × 2 = 60 %
