The subject of Mathematics include calculations, equations, theorems and derivation. When we begin with mathematics as a subject it makes our quantitative skills better. Mathematics helps us in our daily lives. It makes us find out the results that we require. Mathematics is found even in the simplest forms of our everyday lives.
We are able to do basic calculations to find out the result. This result is known as a value. Thus all the calculations and equations that we do end up giving us a value. There are different types of values in Mathematics. The word value has different meanings when it comes to the subject of Mathematics. Generally, the word value means the worth of something or the amount of money a thing costs. But it is not so when it comes to Mathematics. Let us see what does it mean by value in Maths and the different types of values that one can calculate in Mathematics.
Definition of Value
Our Maths teacher gives us sums to calculate, equations to solve and find out the results. Each and every sum that we solve and the results of the equation that we take out has a value. Thus, in maths value signifies a number that is the result of a calculation or function.
For example, if your teacher asks you to find the answer of 5 multiplied by 2 or if your teacher says to find the answer of x-y where x= 3 and y =1. Then you will calculate the multiplication problem or solve the equation to find a definite answer.
The answer to the first question will be 10 and that of the second will be 2. Thus, the answer or the result that you have found out after certain calculations is considered to be the value of the equation of the function.
You can find different types of values in Maths.
Place value and Face value
Place value is the worth of a digit in the column of the number system. There are two types of number systems. The Indian number system and the international number system. The place value of a number is determined by the position of its place according to the two number system.
For example, the place value of
6 in the number 65432 is 60000.
8 in the number 865231 is 800000
The face value of a number is just the number itself irrespective of the position of the number in the Indian and international number system. The value depends on the face and not the place of the number.
For example the face value of
6 in the number 65432 is 6
8 in the number 865231 is 8

Mean or Average value
Another familiar value that we frequently come across while doing calculations is Mean value. The mean value is the sum of the set of numbers that are divided by the total number present in the set. For example, if you are given a set of numbers (6,8,9,10,4) and asked to find out the mean value of the following set then you first add all the numbers given in the set and then divide it with the total numbers present.
(6+8+9+10+4) = 37
37/5 = 7.4 (since there are 5 numbers given in the set)
Therefore, the mean value or average of the above set.
Conclusion
Thus one can conclude that there are different types of value in Mathematics. Each has a different meaning and function. One needs to know these basic meanings of value to continue doing the calculations in Mathematics. It is different from the literal meaning. Its uses are different as well and require a different procedure to find each value.
