IGCSE Grade 9 Maths Find quadrants and axes
|
The position of a point in a plane is determined with reference to two fixed mutually perpendicular lines, called the coordinate axes.
For any coordinate point (x,y), x is called abscissa, and y is called ordinate.
The axis divides the plane in four quadrants.
The points of the type lies in: (+,+) - Quadrant I, (-, +) - quadrant II, (-,-) - Quadrant III, (+,-) - quadrant IV.
The abscissa of every point is 0 on the y-axis and the ordinate is every point is 0 on the x-axis.
The point R is in the bottom left corner.
The x-and y-axes divide the coordinate plane into four quadrants.
The points of the type lies in: (+,+) - Quadrant I, (-, +) - quadrant II, (-,-) - Quadrant III, (+,-) - quadrant IV
Points in quadrant II have negative x and positive y.
The x- and y-axes divide the coordinate plane into four quadrants.
