IGCSE Grade 10 Maths Identifying reflections rotations and translations
|
A translation slides the figure to a different location.
A translation slides the figure to a different location.
The translation is when we slide a figure in any direction.
Recall the steps to follow the steps for rotation around a point with 90 degrees.
A rotation turns the figure around a point.
Reflection is flipping an object across a line without changing its size or shape.
An image reflects through a line, known as the line of reflection.
When rotating a given point 180 degrees about the origin, you need to negate both the x and y coordinates of the point. Let's say the given point is (x, y), then its new position after rotating 180 degrees about the origin would be (-x, -y).
To identify the rotation of a given point when rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise about the origin, you need to swap the x and y coordinates of the point and then negate the new x-coordinate.
Reflection is when we flip a figure over a line.
