Many children struggle to grasp the fundamental concepts of mathematics, which makes the subject too boring for them to engage in, and they simply refuse to put forth the effort. Math-related tricks for kids can help them grasp those concepts, improve their calculation skills, and even surprise a few people with their seemingly magical abilities.

Math tricks for kids can make the subject more engaging and the fundamental rules easier to grasp. A mathematical problem can be solved in a variety of ways, and knowing the tricks can help you solve it in a few steps. Mathematics is logical, even if it is difficult to learn. As a result, math tricks can assist the child in learning more quickly. Furthermore, if the fundamentals are strong, it is easier to follow math concepts in higher classes. Continue reading to learn some simple math tricks that will pique your child’s interest in the subject.

1. Calculating the square of any number ending with the digit 5

The square calculation is a difficult task. However, for the set of numbers ending in 5, this may be a lot easier than before. Numbers with two digits can be calculated instantly, but numbers with more than two digits may necessitate the use of additional tables.

Let’s see if we can find the square of the number 95.

Start by writing the last two digits of the answer, which is 25, according to the trick (the last two digits of the square of a number ending with 5 is 25).

In 95, the first digit is now 9. The number after 9 is 10.

To get the answer, multiply 9 by 10 and you’ll get 90.

Write 90 as a prefix to the answer of 25, which we already wrote.

As a result, the total solution is 9025.

2. Finding the answer to any number multiplied by 11

The majority of children memorise the multiplication tables up to ten. However, knowing how to quickly multiply with 11 can take this a step further.

Let’s see if we can multiply 45 by 11.

Separate the digits 4 and 5 with a space, for example, 4 [] 5.

Now add the two digits in the centre, such as 4 [4+5 = 9] 5.

That is your final answer 495 = 45 × 11.

3. Quickly multiplying any number by 9

Multiplying any number by 9 can be much faster with other multiplication methods.

Consider a number e.g. 754.

Simply add a 0 at the end of the number i.e. 7540 and subtract the original number from it.

7540 – 754 = 6786 which is the result of 754 × 9. That’s how fast it goes!

4. A quick multiplication even with 15

It might be easier to do it with single digits. But what if you could multiply 15 in the same amount of time? Here’s how to do it.

Let’s see if we can multiply 79 and 15.

Add a zero to the end of the number 79 i.e. 790.

Divide it by two i.e. 790 / 2 = 395.

Add both the results i.e. 395 + 790 = 1185 which is your final answer.

5. Break down the numbers to multiply quickly

Multiplication is just a series of additions put together.

Let’s try 14 × 12 for a change.

As a result, 14 = (2 × 7) i.e. 14 × 12= 2 × 7 × 12

7 multiplied by 12 equals 84.

Then, 84 multiplied by 2 equals i.e. 84 + 84 = 168. Which is a quick response.

6. Calendar enchantment

This trick will help your child improve his or her multiplication skills. Your child can quickly find the sum of nine numbers on the calendar by creating a 3 × 3 grid around them.

Assume the nine numbers in a three-by-three box are 14 15 16, 21 22 23, 28 29 30.

Multiply the number in the middle of the square by 9 i.e. 22 × 9 = 198.

As a result, the total number in the box is 198.

7. Finding percentage

Finding the percentage of a number can be difficult, but thinking about it in the right terms makes it a lot clearer. For example, to find out what 5% of 235 is, use the following formula:

Find the 10% of the given number 235, by putting a decimal after one digit from the right i.e. 23.5

Divide 23.5 by 2. You’ll get 11.75 which is 5% of the given number.

8. Simple and incredible divisibility rules

If you want to know whether a number is divisible by a divisor or not, you can simply use divisibility rules and perform calculations more quickly without doing actual division.

Rules of divisibility:

If the number’s last digit is a multiple of two, it’s divisible by two.

If the sum of all the digits is divisible by three, the number is divisible by three.

If the number’s last two digits are divisible by four, it’s divisible by four.

If the number’s last digit is 0 or 5, it’s divisible by 5.

If the number is even, it is divisible by 6; otherwise, it is divisible by both 2 and 3.

If the sum of all the digits is divisible by nine, the number is divisible by nine.

9. Pi’s value should be memorised

Pi, or 3.141592, is a mathematical constant equal to 3.141592. Until you try the below fun math trick, remembering this value can be difficult. Use a pen or pencil to write the following sentence on a blank sheet of paper.

How I Wish I Could Calculate Pi”

Count the number of letters/alphabets in each word and write it down below the word as shown:

How=3

I = one

4= wish

I= one

Could = 5

9= Calculate

Pi = 2

After the number 3, arrange the numbers with a decimal. It gives you the value of Pi, which is 3.141592.

10. Subtract 1000, 10,000, and 100,000 from the total

Tell me how long it will take you to subtract a number from a multiple of 100, such as 1,000, 10,000, or 100,000. Is there a time limit of one minute or less? Let’s see if it’s simple and shortens your calculation time.

E.g. What is the difference between 1000 and 573? (Subtract 1000 from total)

Simply subtract 9 from each digit in 573, then subtract 10 from the last digit.

Step 1: 9 – 5 = 4

Step 2: 9 – 7 = 2

Step 3: 10 – 3 = 7

As a result, the answer is 427 (1000 – 573).

Interpersonal communication is the interaction and exchange of information between two or more people. This can be verbal or non-verbal. It is the ability to interact with people effectively.

It is important for students to have interpersonal skills because it helps them connect with people and allows them to develop their personalities. These skills not only help students in their school/education but also help them to become a confident and well-adjusted individual in society.

Generally, students learn interpersonal skills at school through their interaction with teachers, classmates, and other staff members. It’s a basic life skill, which becomes a part of their behavior and helps them interact with others to build healthy relationships. It also enables them to express themselves well along with giving them a greater perspective to understand others. The application of interpersonal communication doesn’t just end here. Employers to consider interpersonal skills an important factor in selecting a candidate.

Hence, effective interpersonal skills increase the chances of employability and a successful career and life. However, there are some students who lack interpersonal skills due to various reasons, it’s quite uncomplicated to acquire the skill. There are various ways to help children learn interpersonal skills like:

1. Practice what you preach

Children learn most things by observing others around them. If you want your child to learn how to communicate effectively using interpersonal skills, try to set a good example for them. You can do this by being kind to others and by using the right language and gestures for communication of all kinds.

2. Listen and encourage your child to be an active listener

You may spend some quality time with your children where you listen to their experiences without being judgemental or rude. You may also read stories that teach moral values and various social skills. The story session may be followed by a series of effective value-based discussions.

3. Establish a non-threatening environment

In a non-threatening and friendly environment, students are more likely to develop a positive attitude. If they are allowed to express themselves fearlessly, they tend to be more patient and acceptable for the opinions of others.

4. Teamwork

Assigning tasks/activities that require group work, cooperation and coordination, to reach the desired goal can prove to be a great way of incorporating interpersonal skills among children.

5. Be patient and encourage patience

When dealing with problems, respond to situations wisely and encourage your children to learn the same.

6. Community Work

By understanding the needs of others, children can effectively learn how to interact with others in a better way.

7. Empathy over Sympathy

Choose to be empathetic rather than sympathetic while handling difficult situations. Teach children to be socially available for their friends and family as it helps them to enhance their personality as well as trust in their relationships.

8. Public Speaking

Motivate and support your children to participate in activities like group discussions, debates, speech, fancy dress, or recitation competitions in order to boost their confidence and connect with people.  Read Also: How to Speak Confidently In Public- A Guide

9. Be open to their ideas

While taking decisions, for instance deciding a place to eat at or a destination for vacations, welcome their suggestions. Show interest in what they think with the motive of understanding how they think.

10. Decision making and problem-solving

Discussing moral dilemmas with your children will put their creative minds into action when they try to find solutions for the situations provided. An example of such a dilemma is mentioned further.

Cheating on a Test

John, who is in the fourth grade, has been doing poorly on his spelling tests. His parents have threatened to pull him out of the soccer team if he doesn’t improve. John knows that the girl who sits beside him always gets 100 percent on her tests, and he is considering peeking at her paper during the next test so that he can continue to play soccer.

Help your child view all perspectives, such as the school’s cheating policy, that this is unfair to the girl who studied, and how John might be hurting himself in the process of cheating.

So, by instilling a few simple activities/tasks in the day-to-day life of young children, interpersonal communication skills can be developed to a great extent.
