]]>Excessive involvement may bring about drastic changes in the behaviour of students. Teenagers are usually considered to be in their transition period. They go through several changes physically, as well as mentally. But, if they are inclined to play games online, their behaviour may be more aggressive than usual. Apart from some mindful games, most of the online games are based on violence and shooting etc. Thus, teens tend to become violent if they are not allowed to play their favourite games. They turn hostile towards their family and can also isolate themselves. Becoming too strict may drive them to become quarrelsome and adamant about carrying out things according to their choice. Their aggressive behaviour may become a factor in their poor performance in other activities, including academics. Aggressive behaviour may become a dominant aspect of their personality if not taken seriously by their parents.
Playing online games daily for more than an hour can make students dependent on these games. These games are just a source of entertainment. They do not bring about any accomplishment, neither does it help students in their academics. They become addicted to such games. Swiping and matching candies, shooting and killing, running and collecting coins may mesmerize them to such an extent that their minds would constantly be attached to these online games rather than focusing on different activities and academics. Addiction is a significant issue, especially when children are in their growth years. Becoming dependent on online games for recreation can make students addicted to such games. And if these online games require the investment of funds, then this may be equal to gambling. Winning or losing money in these games can make them behave adversely.
We must remember that a child is healthy when he has holistic development. Pandemic has already restricted students from going to school. In this case, if they become addicted to online games, it will directly affect their health. Addiction to online games, along with online classes, will result in less or no outdoor activities. Addiction to online games may affect the child’s sleep cycle that will deteriorate their health. Students try to avoid games that make them indulge in physical exercise. This result in obesity. Reports have suggested that students have gained weight because of their new pandemic lifestyle. Obesity may result in unwanted health issues in your child, which will have adverse effects in future. Prolonged hours of playing online games may prove to be baneful for your child’s eyes. Thus, it is pivotal to supervise a student’s screen time for his well being.
Not engaging in outdoor activities make students lazy. They tend to isolate themselves from worldly activities. You will find them least interested when it comes to participating in familial activities. They prefer the virtual world and consider it to be better than reality. It can prove to be harmful because isolation may also bring sadness to the kids. They would not like to lend a hand in festivities and functions. It might turn them to be socially awkward people. It may further lead to the isolation of your child from society.
The world of online gaming may look agreeable and pleasing but, it is not so. Students might virtually meet unknown people who are directly associated with criminal activities. They may lure them into performing illegal activities for the sake of money or maybe just for pleasure. A very famous case was of the ‘Blue Whale’. This online game added unreasonable tasks for teenagers that eventually lead them to commit suicide. Kids can unknowingly confer personal details about them that can result in unfavourable situations. Thus, students must be attentive and watchful while choosing games that can cause harm to themselves and others. They should, by all means, avoid games that involve money.
There are innumerable effects of online games in students from physical, mental and emotional. We find some positive aspects of online games like encouragement, motivation and relaxation while playing online games. But one should make sure that his child is not addicted to these games. Thus, supervision of elders is mandatory. Children should be given counselling as well about the harmful effects of online games if required.
